President Donald Trump has announced that Todd Blanche, the current deputy attorney general, will assume the role of interim Attorney General, following the removal of Pam Bondi from the position. Notably, Blanche previously represented Trump in a New York criminal case before his re-election in 2024, and was subsequently appointed deputy attorney general. In this capacity, Blanche disbanded the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, which was established under the previous administration, and issued a directive to prosecutors to refrain from pursuing cases related to regulatory violations in the cryptocurrency sector. This move was referenced in a case involving Roman Storm, the developer of Tornado Cash, and ultimately led to the dismissal of a charge against him.
According to Blanche's latest government ethics disclosure, dated July 10, 2025, he transferred his cryptocurrency holdings, including Bitcoin, Solana, ADA, and Ethereum, to his children and a grandchild. However, it has been reported that he still held these assets, valued between $159,000 and $485,000, when he signed the enforcement memo, raising concerns about potential ethics violations and his pledge to divest from crypto-related matters prior to working on them.
