Following the removal of Attorney General Pam Bondi, the US Department of Justice is now under the leadership of Todd Blanche, as announced by President Donald Trump on Thursday. Prior to his appointment as deputy attorney general, Blanche represented Trump in a New York criminal case before Trump's 2024 reelection. Upon returning to office, Trump named Blanche as deputy attorney general.

In this role, Blanche dismantled the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, established in 2022 under the Biden administration, and issued a memo instructing prosecutors to refrain from pursuing regulatory violations within the crypto industry. This memo was referenced in a case against Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, resulting in the dropping of a charge against him.

According to Blanche's government ethics disclosure from July 10, 2025, he transferred his crypto holdings, including Bitcoin, Solana, ADA, and Ethereum, to his family members. The disclosure also noted his previous holdings of Polygon, DOT, Quant, and Coinbase stock. However, as reported by ProPublica, Blanche still held these cryptos, valued between $159,000 and $485,000, when signing the enforcement memo, which raised concerns about ethics violations and his pledge to divest from crypto-related matters.
