The recent discussions around quantum computing have raised concerns about the potential risks to blockchain networks. Experts suggest that XRP's architecture may be better equipped to handle these threats than Bitcoin's.
The XRP Ledger, which is the blockchain that XRP operates on, has features such as key rotation and escrow that can help mitigate the risks associated with quantum computing. A recent audit found that around 300,000 XRP accounts, holding approximately 2.4 billion XRP, have never sent any funds and are therefore quantum-safe by default. In contrast, Bitcoin's blockchain has a larger portion of its supply exposed to quantum attacks, with around 6.9 million BTC vulnerable, equivalent to nearly 35% of its circulating supply. While Bitcoin developers have proposed initiatives to develop quantum resistance, the lack of key rotation features on the Bitcoin blockchain leaves holders more structurally vulnerable to quantum threats.
