Following the removal of Attorney General Pam Bondi, the US Department of Justice is now under the leadership of Todd Blanche, as announced by President Donald Trump. Blanche, who previously represented Trump in a New York criminal case, was appointed deputy attorney general after Trump's re-election in 2024. Notably, Blanche disbanded the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, which was established in 2022 during the Biden administration, and issued a memo instructing prosecutors to refrain from pursuing regulatory cases within the crypto industry. This move had significant implications, including the dropping of a charge against Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm in a case handled by the Southern District of New York office.

Furthermore, Blanche's latest government ethics disclosure, dated July 10, 2025, reveals that he transferred his crypto holdings, including Bitcoin, Solana, ADA, and Ethereum, to his family members. However, it has been reported that he still held these assets, valued between $159,000 and $485,000, when he signed the enforcement memo, raising concerns about potential ethics violations and his pledge to divest from crypto-related matters.
