Bitcoin Reaches $70,000 Milestone Amid Institutional Investment Signals
Francisco Rodrigues reports (all times ET unless stated otherwise) On Tuesday, Bitcoin (BTC) at $71,038.77 and the broader cryptocurrency market displayed mixed trends, with Bitcoin briefly touching the $70,000 mark following reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This hesitation comes after a significant influx of funds into Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on the previous day, despite the market's close attention to the challenging macroeconomic environment. The demand from Bitcoin ETF investors suggests they view the current price movement as a buying opportunity. Earlier this month, Binance Research discovered that the correlation between Bitcoin and its Global Easing Breadth Index, which tracks 41 central banks, turned strongly negative after the launch of spot Bitcoin ETFs. Institutional flows driven by ETFs tend to be forward-looking, positioning themselves for anticipated policy changes, indicating that institutional capital may be accumulating in anticipation of an easing of monetary policy. Bitfinex Alpha described the market as range-bound but fragile, with weak organic demand, slower corporate treasury purchases, and options positioning that becomes more unstable below $68,000 as downside protection increases. Macro pressure remains a significant factor. With Brent crude remaining above $110 per barrel, the looming deadline imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Iran for a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz keeps investors on edge. Given the expected rise in inflation due to higher energy costs, the market currently sees little room for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates in the near future. The upcoming U.S. inflation data later this week will be crucial. Stay informed! Read more: For an analysis of today's activity in altcoins and derivatives, see Crypto Markets Today.
