Alchemy, a leading provider of cryptocurrency infrastructure utilized by numerous blockchains and firms, has introduced a groundbreaking tool called AgentPay. This solution enables various AI payment systems from prominent companies such as Coinbase, Stripe, Visa, Mastercard, and Circle to function in harmony.
The primary issue AgentPay addresses is the lack of interoperability among agentic payment systems, which are currently being developed. This incompatibility means that merchants seeking to cater to AI agents as customers must establish a separate integration for each protocol, a process that is not sustainable.
According to Alchemy's CTO, Guillaume Poncin, "AgentPay resolves this issue. A merchant registers their existing API with us, and we provide them with a new endpoint, allowing any agent on a supported protocol to make payments through it." Alchemy is often regarded as the 'AWS of Web3' due to its provision of essential infrastructure, developer tools, and node services for building blockchain applications. AgentPay promises to simplify the process by offering a single integration for multiple protocols, including x402, MPP, A2P, and L402. "We act as the intermediary translation layer, where AgentPay directs instructions, and Alchemy never comes into contact with the funds," Poncin explained.
The emerging field of agentic finance, which is expected to become a significant component of online payment activity, involves micro-transactions and nano-payments between AI agents, often with human oversight in the background. Alchemy has conducted a private beta soft launch and is planning a general release in the coming weeks.
