In a bid to bolster the security of the burgeoning cryptocurrency sector, the US Department of the Treasury has announced that it will begin sharing timely cybersecurity information with eligible crypto businesses. This move aims to equip them with the necessary tools to counter the growing threat of cyberattacks, which have plagued the industry since its inception. The Treasury's Office of Cybersecurity and Critical Infrastructure Protection will provide crypto firms with access to the same high-quality, actionable cybersecurity intelligence that traditional financial institutions receive. This development comes in response to a recommendation from the President's Working Group on Digital Asset Markets, which emphasized the importance of information sharing in mitigating cyber threats.

According to Luke Pettit, Assistant Secretary for Financial Institutions, this initiative will help foster a more secure and responsible digital asset ecosystem. The cryptocurrency sector has been particularly vulnerable to malicious hacks, with billions of dollars' worth of assets being stolen annually, often by state-sponsored hacker groups. This move is seen as a crucial step towards addressing the concerns of US lawmakers, who have been weighing legislation to bring the crypto sector under the regulated financial system.
