Following the removal of Attorney General Pam Bondi, Todd Blanche has been named the interim head of the US Department of Justice, as announced by President Donald Trump. Blanche, who previously served as Trump's attorney in a New York criminal case and later as deputy attorney general, has been instrumental in shaping the DOJ's crypto enforcement policies.
Notably, he disbanded the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team established under the Biden administration and issued a memo advising prosecutors against pursuing regulatory cases in the crypto sector. This move had significant implications, including the dropping of a charge against Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm. Blanche's personal financial disclosures reveal that he transferred his crypto holdings, including Bitcoin, Solana, and Ethereum, to his family members.
However, it has been reported that he still held these assets, valued between $159,000 and $485,000, when signing the enforcement memo, potentially violating ethics rules and his pledge to divest from crypto-related matters.
