Bitcoin Hits $70,000 as Institutional Investors Show Growing Interest
By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless indicated otherwise) On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency market, led by Bitcoin, which briefly reached $70,000, exhibited mixed trends following reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This development comes on the heels of a significant surge in bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on Monday, the largest since late February. Despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, investors in bitcoin ETFs appear to be taking advantage of the current price to accumulate more assets. Earlier this month, Binance Research discovered that the correlation between bitcoin and its Global Easing Breadth Index, which tracks the policies of 41 central banks, turned negative after the launch of spot bitcoin ETFs. This shift suggests that institutional investors are positioning themselves in anticipation of future monetary policy changes, indicating that they may be accumulating assets ahead of an expected easing of monetary policy. According to Bitfinex Alpha, the market is currently range-bound but vulnerable, characterized by weak organic demand, slower corporate treasury purchases, and options positioning that becomes increasingly unstable below $68,000 as investors seek more protection against potential losses. The looming deadline for a deal between the US and Iran, imposed by US President Donald Trump, continues to impact the market, with Brent crude prices remaining above $110 per barrel. This uncertainty is keeping investors on edge. With the expected rise in inflation due to higher energy costs, the market believes the Federal Reserve has limited room to lower interest rates in the near future. The upcoming US inflation data release later this week will be crucial. It is essential to stay informed about market developments.
