Expert Warns of Admin Key Risks After $200 Million Drift Hack

According to Omkar Godbole, the recent exploit of Drift, a major decentralized exchange on the Solana blockchain, highlights the importance of auditing admin keys, not just smart contracts. Omer Goldberg, founder of Chaos Labs, explained that the attacker compromised Drift's admin key, gaining unlimited control over the system. The attacker then created a fake collateral market for a worthless token, artificially inflated its value, and drained over $250 million worth of tokens. This incident underscores the need for strong governance and key controls in addition to smart contract audits. The Solana token has hit a five-week low, dropping nearly 3% to $78.30, consistent with the weakness in the broader crypto market. The markets are also being influenced by President Donald Trump's renewed threat to Iran, which has led to higher oil prices and volatility in both traditional and crypto markets.
