Following the removal of Attorney General Pam Bondi, the U.S. Department of Justice is now under the leadership of Todd Blanche, as announced by President Donald Trump. Blanche, who previously represented Trump in a New York criminal case, was appointed deputy attorney general after Trump's re-election in 2024. Notably, Blanche disbanded the DOJ's National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, established in 2022 during the Biden administration, and issued a memo instructing prosecutors to refrain from pursuing regulatory violations in the cryptocurrency sector.

This move was referenced in a case involving Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, resulting in the dismissal of a charge against him. Blanche's latest government ethics disclosure, dated July 10, 2025, reveals that he transferred his cryptocurrency holdings, including Bitcoin, Solana, and Ethereum, to his family members. However, according to ProPublica, he still held these assets, valued between $159,000 and $485,000, when he signed the enforcement memo, potentially violating ethics rules and his pledge to divest from crypto-related matters.
