Following the removal of Attorney General Pam Bondi, President Donald Trump has announced that Todd Blanche will assume the role of interim head of the US Department of Justice. Blanche, who previously represented Trump in a New York criminal case, was appointed deputy attorney general after Trump's re-election in 2024.

Notably, Blanche dismantled the DOJ's National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, which was established under the Biden administration, and issued a memo instructing prosecutors to refrain from pursuing regulatory cases within the crypto industry. This directive was cited in the case against Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, resulting in the dismissal of one charge, although Storm was later convicted on another count and faces a retrial on two additional charges.

According to Blanche's latest government ethics disclosure, dated July 10, 2025, he transferred his crypto holdings, including Bitcoin, Solana, ADA, and Ethereum, to his family members. However, it has been reported that he still held these assets, valued between $159,000 and $485,000, when he signed the enforcement memo, thereby violating ethics rules and his pledge to divest prior to working on crypto-related matters.
