Bitcoin Temporarily Reaches $70,000 Amid Signs of Institutional Investment via ETFs

Francisco Rodrigues reports (all times Eastern Time unless specified otherwise) On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency market, led by Bitcoin at $71,241.67, showed a mixed performance, briefly touching $70,000 following reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This cautious market behavior comes a day after Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw their largest inflows since late February. Despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, investors in Bitcoin ETFs appear to view the current market conditions as an opportunity for accumulation. Earlier this month, Binance Research discovered that the correlation between Bitcoin and its Global Easing Breadth Index, which tracks the policies of 41 central banks, became strongly negative after the introduction of spot Bitcoin ETFs. The flow of institutional capital into ETFs tends to be forward-looking, positioning for anticipated policy changes, suggesting that institutional investors may be accumulating Bitcoin in anticipation of potential monetary policy easing. According to Bitfinex Alpha, the market is currently range-bound but fragile, characterized by weak organic demand, slower corporate treasury purchases, and unstable options positioning below $68,000 as investors seek downside protection. The looming macroeconomic pressures remain a significant factor. With Brent crude prices above $110 per barrel, the deadline imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump for a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz keeps investors on edge. Given the expected rise in inflation due to higher energy costs, the market sees little room for the Federal Reserve to cut interest rates in the near future. The upcoming U.S. inflation data later this week will be crucial to watch. For further analysis of today's altcoin and derivatives market activity, see Crypto Markets Today.
