Following the removal of Attorney General Pam Bondi, President Donald Trump has announced that Todd Blanche will take over as the interim head of the US Department of Justice. Blanche, who previously represented Trump in a New York criminal case, was appointed deputy attorney general after Trump's re-election in 2024.
In this role, Blanche dismantled the National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, which was established in 2022 under the Biden administration, and issued a memo instructing prosecutors to refrain from pursuing regulatory cases in the cryptocurrency industry. This move was referenced in a case involving Roman Storm, the developer of Tornado Cash, and ultimately led to the dismissal of a charge against him. According to a government ethics disclosure filed by Blanche in July 2025, he transferred his cryptocurrency holdings, including Bitcoin, Solana, and Ethereum, to his family members. However, it has been reported that he still held these assets, valued between $159,000 and $485,000, when he signed the enforcement memo, which raises concerns about a potential conflict of interest and violation of ethics rules.
