Following the removal of Attorney General Pam Bondi, Todd Blanche has been named to lead the U.S. Department of Justice, as announced by President Donald Trump.

Blanche, who previously represented Trump in a New York criminal case, was appointed deputy attorney general after Trump's re-election in 2024. Notably, Blanche disbanded the DOJ's National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team, established under the Biden administration, and issued a memo instructing prosecutors to refrain from pursuing regulatory cases within the crypto industry.

This decision had a direct impact on the case against Tornado Cash developer Roman Storm, resulting in dropped charges. According to Blanche's latest government ethics disclosure, dated July 10, 2025, he transferred his cryptocurrency holdings, including Bitcoin, Solana, ADA, and Ethereum, to his family members.

However, it was reported that he still held these assets, valued between $159,000 and $485,000, when signing the enforcement memo, which raised concerns about ethics violations and his pledge to divest from crypto-related matters.
