Bitcoin Surpasses $70,000 Amid Institutional Interest and ETF Inflows

By Francisco Rodrigues (All times ET unless otherwise stated) On Tuesday, the cryptocurrency market, led by Bitcoin at $71,140.17, exhibited mixed signals, briefly reaching $70,000 following reports of a proposed ceasefire in Iran. This cautious market behavior comes after a significant surge in bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) on the previous day, which saw the largest inflows since late February. Despite the challenging macroeconomic environment, the demand from bitcoin ETF investors suggests they perceive the current price fluctuations as a buying opportunity. Earlier this month, Binance Research discovered that the correlation between bitcoin and its Global Easing Breadth Index, tracking 41 central banks, turned strongly negative after the introduction of spot bitcoin ETFs. This indicates that institutional investors, driven by ETFs, are positioning themselves in anticipation of future policy changes, potentially accumulating bitcoin in expectation of monetary policy easing. Bitfinex Alpha characterized the market as range-bound yet fragile, with weak organic demand, slower corporate treasury purchases, and options positioning becoming more unstable below $68,000 as protection against potential downsides increases. The looming macroeconomic pressure persists, with Brent crude prices remaining above $110 per barrel due to the impending deadline imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump on Iran for a deal to open the Strait of Hormuz, keeping investors on high alert. Given the expected rise in inflation caused by higher energy costs, the market anticipates little room for the Federal Reserve to lower interest rates in the near future. The upcoming U.S. inflation data later this week will be crucial. Remain vigilant! For further analysis of today's altcoin and derivatives activity, see Crypto Markets Today.
